RESTRICTION OF ACCESS TO ESCOM OFFICES AND MANDATORY USE OF MASKS

about img

The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited is informing the general public that as one way of preventing the spread of corona virus (COVID-19), all clients visiting any ESCOM offices are required to wear masks with immediate effect.

Clients who will not be putting on masks will not be allowed entry. Clients must ensure that the mask covers both the nose and the mouth and should not be lowered under any circumstances including when coughing, sneezing and speaking to anybody while in the premises of ESCOM.

Further, the general public is encouraged to contact ESCOM through telephone lines or emails and avoid visiting the offices in person save for very exceptional circumstances. Customers are advised to maximise usage of other channels of buying electricity units such as ATMs, internet banking, Mobile Money and other outlets to ensure that ESCOM’s revenue halls are not too crowded for customers to observe social distance.

Those who may wish to drop mail at ESCOM offices should drop the mail at reception desks only. Selling of merchandise of any type in ESCOM premises by the general public is hereby prohibited.

In addition to wearing masks, the general public is reminded to observe the following when they visit any ESCOM office:
(i) Wash hands at designated points for at least 20 seconds or use alcohol-based hand sanitiser.
(ii) Should clients decide to use their own hand sanitiser, they should sanitise their hands at the entrance to the premises where this will be confirmed by ESCOM staff before entry.
(iii) Always maintain a social distance of at least 1.5 meters while in ESCOM premises.
(iv) Avoid shaking hands with anybody.
(v) Avoid touching surfaces anyhow.
(vi) Avoid visiting ESCOM offices if you have flue-like symptoms.

The above measures have been taken to protect both the general public and ESCOM staff who work day and night, as essential service providers, to ensure availability of electricity to the nation around the clock.

Your cooperation in observing and adhering to the above measures is highly appreciated.
