The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited has noted with great concern of the practice by some unscrupulous individuals who cheat paid up customers on the waiting list for new connections. The fraudsters force ESCOM customers to pay additional sums of money purportedly to buy various materials such as poles and conductors, alleging that such materials are not available in our stores and also promising to fast track the new connections.
Customers are informed that, once they have fully paid for their new connection, ESCOM does not further request them to pay additional money even in the event of temporary stock outs for some construction materials.
Customers are further informed that any payments related to new connections are only received by our cashiers at our designated Customer Care Centres or offices and that upon receiving such payments, an official ESCOM receipt is issued.
Please be warned that such new connections, done not using approved materials provided by ESCOM, shall be classified as illegal and the customer shall be required to pay a fine and may also likely suffer a further delay in the implementation of the new connection by ESCOM.
Customers are requested to report to any nearest ESCOM office or the Police any individual asking new electricity applicants to pay additional money for the purpose of buying the required materials to fast track new connections.
