Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi Limited (ESCOM) has intensified power restoration efforts in the Southern Region of the country in the aftermath of Cyclone Freddy.
Speaking in Blantyre at one of the sites where they were working on a high voltage line, ESCOM's Public Relations Manager, Kitty Chingota, said in the power restoration exercise they are prioritising lines that supply power to essential service providers.
"It is worrisome that despite all these efforts in some areas people are still vandalising our equipment, this will derail the progress of the power restoration exercise," said Chingota.
Following the adverse effects of Cyclone Freddy, most ESCOM equipment suffered damage and this has made some areas have no power for over three day
